April 8, 2008 To all Mike Company Marines, Corpsmen, family and friends: The Written Agreement with the Sunset Station Hotel & Casino was signed by all parties on Thursday, April 3, 2008. In a few days registration forms will be e-mailed to everyone requesting your personal information, and will also provide other information such as T-shirt and cap prices etc. As we get closer to the date of the reunion we will keep everyone informed in subsequent newsletters as to any new developments in our planning. The following is basic information about our 2008 reunion: The dates of the reunion are from Sunday, October 12, 2008 (arrive) to Thursday, October 16, 2008 (check out and depart). LOCATION: Sunset Station Hotel & Casino 1301 West Sunset Road Las Vegas, NV 89014 RESERVATIONS: Call 1-888-786-7389. Identify yourself as being a member of Mike Company, 3rd Battalion, 1st Marines so that you get the contracted for room rate for our group. The hotel will take reservations for our group at the group rate until September 13, 2008. After that date reservations will be taken on a space available basis at the prevailing room rate. ROOM RATE: For the dates Sunday, October 12 to Thursday, October 16: $69+$5.45 room amenity fee+10% Clark County tax = $81.35 per night for a room occupied by 2 persons. If 3 persons, add $15. If 4 persons, add $30. The room rate for Friday and Saturday nights is $105+$5.45+10% Clark County tax. Things covered by the "room amenity fee" are free parking, free shuttle service to and from the airport and strip, unlimited local telephone calls, unlimited fax and copy service, use of the exercise room and a newspaper delivered to your room each morning. THE HOTEL: The Sunset Station Hotel & Casino was opened in 1997. It is located off the Las Vegas Strip on a 98-acre complex 5 miles from McCarran International Airport. For those of you who might want to visit the strip, free scheduled shuttle service to and from the strip is provided daily. Located in the hotel complex are: 457 sleeping rooms. 10 restaurants. 13-screen Regal Sunset movie theater. KIDS QUEST (to 12 years)--supervised children’s activity center. Bowling Center containing 72 Brunswick Pro Lanes, a video game arcade, pool tables, and a food and drink service area. Club Madrid where live entertainment is featured. A 10,000 sq. ft. casino containing 2500 slot machines and 55 game tables. Meeting and banquet rooms. Located directly across the street from the hotel is the one-million square foot Galleria Sunset Mall containing 110 stores and restaurants. PLANNED EVENTS: On Wednesday, October 15th from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. we will have our Memorial Ceremony honoring our fallen brothers in the outdoor Courtyard of the hotel. At the ceremony we plan to have available copies of our new book, Mike Company, 3rd Battalion, 1st Marines-Vietnam Honor Roll, 1966-1971. Free copies will be given to and/or shipped to family members of the Marines and Corpsmen featured in the book. All others wanting a copy will be charged a minimum price necessary to cover the expenses of printing, graphics, binding etc.—expenses which we are still incurring. On Wednesday, October 15th from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. our banquet dinner will be held in the Sunset Room of the hotel. The menu for the banquet dinner will be: MIXED GREEN SALAD (or) CAESAR SALAD BAY SHRIMP SALAD SAUTEED CHICKEN BREAST WITH WILD MUSHROOM SAUCE BAKED ORANGE ROUGHY WITH CITRUS BUERRE BLANC SEARED BEEF WITH SMOKED GARLIC-MARJORAM SAUCE VEGETABLE MEDLEY STUFFED PASTA SHELLS WILD RICE PILAF COFFEE and ICED TEA DESSERT: Large SHEET CAKE with appropriate Mike Company, 3rd Battalion, 1st Marines decoration on it will be substituted for the usual dessert menu. DAILY DINING: In the hotel’s FEAST BUFFET dining area: *We recommend obtaining the hotel’s BOARDING PASS CARD—which is free—and will permit you to get a price discount at each meal in the FEAST BUFFET dining area. The following meal prices are shown WITH and WITHOUT a BOARDING PASS CARD. You can get your free BOARDING PASS CARD by going online to http://www.sunsetstation.com/gaming/boarding-pass/signup/ Breakfast $6.99 $7.99 OPEN DAILY 8am—11am Lunch $8.99 $9.99 OPEN DAILY 11am—4pm *Dinner $11.99 $13.99 Sat/Sun/Mon/Tue/Thur 4pm—10pm *Wednesday the Feast Buffet serves a New York Steak & Shrimp Dinner $16.99 $18.99 *Friday the Feast Buffet serves a Seafood Dinner $16.99 $18.99 *Saturday and Sunday the Feast Buffet serves BRUNCH (8am-4pm) $11.99 $13.99 *Children’s Price: 4-8 years, $1 off regular menu; 3 years and under free. OTHER PLANNED EVENTS: Bus trip to Hoover Dam WE RECOMMEND THAT YOU PURCHASE YOUR AIRLINE TICKETS AS SOON AS POSSIBLE TO AVOID WHAT WILL PROBABLY BE MAJOR AIRFARE PRICE INCREASES BETWEEN NOW AND OCTOBER DUE TO THE RISING PRICE OF GASOLINE AND JET FUEL. Last note: A few extra dollars will be factored into everyone’s registration fee in order to provide a fund from which we will pay for snacks and soft drinks served in our Hospitality Room, and also to pay some of the expenses for a few of our brothers who want to attend the reunion, but without some financial help from the rest of us would not be able to attend.
