Comments: A friend told me about this site. I served with Kilo Co, 3/1 as the F.O. radioman from Aug 67 through Feb 68. Was wounded on TET. While looking at some of the photo's of Kilo Co. by Capt Regal, I saw the one of the Officers taken on I believe Feb 3, 1968. One of those was Lt. Ted Edwards,who later died in my arms after being shot in the throat while calling in artillery on Feb 4. That photo is the same one I have in my album at home. Chills came over my entire body upon seeing that one! To all of you who were there, "Semper Fi" my fellow Marines! Some of the ones I remembered were "Fly" from TN, and "Moon" from Chicago, both in Motars! PVT Samples was another character!! (: I'd be tickeled to hear from anyone that was there!! Doc Arlbaugh, from Ohio also.

Comments: I would like to locate Capt. Robert Weeks, Company Commander of Lima Company in late April, 1969. As the Platoon Commander of 3rd Platoon, Co. A, 5th Tank Bn, I supported his company with my Heavy Section (3 tanks) in an operation starting at Hill 55, moving south of Route 4 to an area S.W. of Hill 55. After a couple of days there, we moved to Hill 37 for a couple of hours, then moved west along Route 4 into the Thuong Duc Valley past Hill 65 and south across the Song Thu Bon into the northern Arizona.

Approx. 2 years ago he gave me a copy of "the life of Chesty Puller" which looked like it had been through hell and back, and I opened it to begin reading it and inside the front cover read "Property of William Sacks, 3rd. Bn. 1st Mar. 1st Mar. Div." and I had finally figured out what what his unit was. My parents are divirced and both remarried and my mom has copy of dads discharge papers and it reads "Wiremen" as his occupation I guess you could call it. well my granddfather was in Korea in the army and was stationed in fort Hood texas and he got a copy of it and took it to a few Marines he knew that were over in Viet Nam and they all state that they had never heard of a wiremen. well my step dad is in the army currently, and is in the Guard and he also knew some Marines that served In Nam and they also stated that they had never heard of a wiremen either. Well your website was the first that I have found that was from the same unit my father served in and i was wondering if perhaps if you know him, or could find some one that had any contact with him while over seas. I believe I am correct when I match the information inside that cover to the 3/1 that is on your page. On his record, it states his place of residence was Spottslyvania, Virginia at the time of leaving for boot, which was in P.I. and I can't exactly recall what unit I guess you could say he was in at the time but if you have ever seen the movie "full metal jacket" we had sat down and watched and he pointed out the flag that they carried in the movie at boot and he stated that that was the unit he was in at P.I. Dad stated once he was over seas from 1969-1970. (I think, but that's the period of time he was there-approx.) So I was curious as if you could point me in the right dirtection as to where I could find some information on him, or if there is some way you could help me. I live in Pittsburg, Kansas which is in south east Kansas, and I would be willing to talk over the phone or other wise if you are willing. My number is (316)230-0229. I would be much obliged.

Comments: This site was mailed to me by some kind vets. I have been looking for those who may have served with my Father, Sgt. Norman W. Clearwater (3/1 Lima Company) in 1967 before he was KIA 12/27/1967. My family would/could not tell me much more than what he was like from their perspective and I have been longing to find out more information, as I was born in 02/68. Up until now I did not even know his company, much less that he was involved in Operation Badger Tooth. Thank you to all who have been answering my messages on different message boards, I am now finally being able to piece together some of the pieces that I have been missing for the last 32 years.

I am writing because I am trying to find any veterans out there of the 3rd Marine Division or the !st Provisional Brigade and or any one else who so gallantly gave their all to liberate my home island of Guam. Guam's 56th Liberation Anniversary is coming up this July 21st and I was hoping to at least correspond with any survivors so we can help celebrate their valor and to better educate this generation of people to appreciate the bloodshed of those before us.

Of particular interest to any of the veterans who landed on Agat beach is the fact that the church that I now pastor is right on the beach where they landed. Unfortunately, not much has been done to better commemorate this precious soil. Please assist me if you can.

My service with 3/1 began in June 67 and lasted till Oct 69 when I left Hill 37 and returned to the world. Yup, you do the numbers, I extended twice, yup nuttts. First with Lima, through most of the float phase (BLT 11/67-5/68)and ended up with Arty Liason (C Btry 1/11)for the balance. God Bless.

I was privileged to serve as Tank Platoon Commander, BLT 3/26 (A Co., 5th Tanks)on an operation with 3/1 from April 26 to about May 2. My Heavy Section supported Kilo Company, while my Light Section supported India Company. After moving south of Hill 55 for a few days, we moved north to Route 4, then west on Route 4, then south across the Song Vu Gia into the Northern Arizona.Kilo Company was Commanded by a Captain Weeks or Meeks.

Comments: After 26 years service in our Corps, you never forget the unit that took you to your "first dance". I have not corresponded with anyone with whom I had the privilege to serve from Feb-Aug 1969 as Company Commander of Kilo Company. I am sorry to say that situations are still remembered but the names and faces have become blurred over the years. In review of the memorial page I only vaguely recall one name. I anxiously await the day to compare notes
and memories, such as 7 April when we walked in on the Q 82d Sapper Battalion underground complex located about 1500 meters from a static ROK compound. Until then, Semper Fidelis and a big ATTABOY to Oliver for his efforts on this WEB page.

Comments: Once a Marine - Always a Marine, how true this is. It was 10 July, 1967 when I enlisted. Found myself, just a year later, in the Northern I Corp at the Dung Ha CB. Also spent time in Quang Tri, USS Repose and LZ Baldy.
