Comments:[Last Updated 11/11/02]During Oct 18-20, 2001 a reunion was held at MCB Quantico by those Marines who served with Kilo Co. during 1966 under the command of CapT. L. H. Gonzales and Capt. H. T. Winston. A plaque was placed at the Wall with the following "K-3-1 VietNam 1966-1971. Dedicated to our missing and fallen brothers, from your brothers past, present and future. You will not be forgotten. Semper Fidelis." All of us who served during this period share a unique bond that others do not understand. Our ranks may be shrinking but I assure you that the Marines of the present and future K-3-1 will carry on and make us proud. SEMPER FIDELIS!!!!!! Joined K-3-5 in Sep 63 after boot camp Mar 64-Apr 65 B-1-9 then became a member of K-3-1 during Apr 65 during this time was automatic rifleman and fire team leader. Many of us waived our overseas control dates to deploy with Kilo Co. and 3-1 and remained with K-3-1 as Company Supply NCO. Transferred to H&S-3-1 during April 66 prior to redeployment to Da Nang. Rotated out of country during Nov 67. Like many of us at that time never thought I would stay in well 26 years later to the day I retired as a MGySgt 0491 on Jun 21, 1989. I entered and departed our beloved Corps on my birthday. My numerical replacement graduated from recruit training that is how we live on. SEMPER Fi to those fine Marines of Kilo Company who have followed us. Long live our Corps and those who have served and those who will serve. Those of our brothers who have paid the ultimate price, live on in our hearts and minds. THEY WILL ALWAYS BE WITH US. Some familiar names of that era Capt "Speedy" Gonzales 1stSgt Barnhart GySgt Pointer SSgt Schaffer SSgt Binkley Lt Gangle Lt Wood Lt Wilber Sgts Cobb, Manning, Bartkoski Cpls Banks, Knight, Bryant and many other faces that I recall but the names have been erased with age.
