KILO SITREP:
24 JAN 2005, Co NEWS

DEAR KILO COMPANY:

Several items to pass on concerning our Kilo Company brothers:

1. On 13 January, Ray Youngberg lost his left hand to a farm accident when it was caught in a corn stripper. He was taken by helicopter to the hospital where his hand was amputated at the wrist. Ray and his wife Julie both work at a nearby casino and apparently, after some rehab time, he will be able to keep in job. The VA is picking up the hospitalization costs although he had to be sent to a civilian hospital. His major out of pocket expense will be the $9300 helicopter. Ray's nieces and nephews are going to have a fund raiser to help with this expense.

At the present time, we have $1420.92 in the Kilo Fund. To help Ray and his family out, I have asked Chris Giordano to send them a check for $300. While in Kilo Company, Ray was in the 3rd platoon and was wounded and evacuated on 8/3/67. Anyone desiring to further assist Ray should send a check to Chris Giordano. Make out the check to "Kilo, 3/1." In 2 weeks, Chris will compile the money sent in and send Ray and Julie an additional check. By the way, Chris has a new address:

2. Lew Norris was 2ndLt Ted Edward's radioman. Lew was wounded on 2/2/68, the same day that Ted was killed. A few years ago Lew, who is retired from the post office, was battling cancer. After winning that battle, a few weeks ago doctors discovered a tumor on his brain. Last Thursday, Lew was operated on and I have not been able to get any information as to how it turned out. I will soon and will pass it on. Please keep Lew and Sharon in your thoughts and prayers. 3. Ralph D. Cummings, 2nd Platoon rockets, has recently been located. He was in Kilo Company from around Oct or Nov, 1967 until wounded in Nhi Ha on 28 Feb 68. Ralph is retired. Contact info:

4. Yesterday I received an email from Captain Tim Jent, CO, Kilo Company, 3/1 in Iraq. Here is some of what he said: "You and your Marines would have been very proud of your company. The "Spartans" of Kilo Company did very well. They were aggressive in everything they did and fought like true brothers. Although we lost 4 and had 70 Purple Hearts, I know that their ability to work together and watch over one another was the reason the toll was not higher. I know you lived it as well, but it is still amazing to see. I will never forget it and know that we all have been changed in ways we have yet to realize."

A few months ago I had a few Kilo Company lapel pins and sent Tim one. Here is what he said about that: "...please send me the address where we can get hold of some more Kilo "Vietnam" pins. I wore mine and it brought me luck but I gave it to the SFC(Army) I worked with in Fallujah. He and a Marine Staff NCO had the unenviable job of training an Iraqi Security Force company who will be in the city for some time to come and will be involved in election security come next week. I thought he might need a bit of luck. He was fantastic, a real hard charger... and a reservist!"

Kilo Company flies out today!

That's the news for now... Take the time to stay in touch with each other. Call a buddy today.

WARMEST REGARDS AND SEMPER FI,

SEMPER FI,

KILO 6 (67/68) SENDS
