SITREP From Iraq:
Latest Report From 3/1 in Iraq

KILO COMPANY:

Below is a message from the Kilo Company first sergeant in Iraq.

SEMPER FI,

KILO 6(67/68)SENDS

Hello Ladies and Gents, I want to thank you for all the food you have sent for our Mexican Fiesta. We were planning on a New Years Eve celebration but had to postpone the meal until we can get our kitchen up and running. We have problems with the electricity/generators from time to time and unfortunately it picked now to act up. I know the Marines and sailors will enjoy it the time comes so thank you again. In true Marine spirit we’ll adapt and overcome. December was a great month for Kilo Company. Thanks for all of the Christmas decoration for our Firm Base. We got into the Christmas spirit and decorated the place to make it look and feel like home. We received the 8 foot tall tree sent by our Key Volunteer Network and place in the hall way for all to see. My company clerk put all the trimmings on it and helped write the names of every Kilo Marine and Sailor on the Christmas balls that were sent. The tree looked beautiful so thank you again. Christmas Eve was celebrated with Marines caroling at the base. Yes, you heard me right. We have many hidden talents in our company and that was the event to remember. There were special church services on Christmas day so everyone had the opportunity to worship if they chose. Christmas night we had a wonderful dinner that was provided by the Battalion. We had Turkey, ham, green beans, mashed potatoes, stuffing, different kinds of pie, and apple cider. We had enough food to serve over four hundred people. I guarantee that every belly was full. We set up a movie screen in the chow area with a lap top plugged into it and showed a fireplace with moving flames. With the Christmas songs playing in the background our Marines and sailors felt more at home. Nothing beats being at home for the holidays but this came in at a close second. Our Kilo Company Marines and sailors are a family of their own.

We’re now mid-way into this deployment and the countdown can begin. We should be in the states sometime in April but we don’t know the exact date at this time. It’s important to remember that if you don’t get your information from the KVN or a member of the rear command regarding the return date and time it’s probably a rumor. Dates and times change often, especially when the time draws near so be patient, flexible and plan ahead if you’re coming in from out of state. When the time comes, we’ll grab our gear, head to Kuwait and wait to catch our Freedom flight home. 2nd Platoon hosted a variety show for the company and provided a spread of good food. The event was a lot of fun to watch and the Marines putting it on had a good time letting loose. There will be a few pictures sent out with the next Gallery update.

Congratulation to the following Marines!
