| Comments:I am Willie's wife Karen S. Phillips, and I am writing this in Honor of my husband, as he passed away May 21,02. I am not very good on the computer yet,so my children and grandchildren have helped me make a myspace page for me and one for Willie, you can look at his and mine. I will put some bootcamp and Vietnam pictures and send them to you later, because I don't remember the names of the men and maybe other people will. Willie and I dated 7 years then got married Jan.1,1972.I got to see him graduate from Parris Island,10/68 then he went to Camp Pendleton and then Vietnam. He was wounded the first time April 5/69 when he was in India 3/1 in the left shoulder by AK47,was sent to Guam Navel Hospital for two months then back to WestPac then they needed men for Mike3/1 and he went there about june/69 and RandR in Hong,Kong in Aug./69 and back to Mike3/1 and then Sept.20/69 a daisy chain booby trap killed several friends and wounded Willie in the leg with alarge piece of shrapnel, and back to Guam Navel Hospital for about 3 months then Camp Pendleton and home to me.The pictures I will be sending are only from Mike3/1 because he didnt get a camera till his RandR. A friend named Allisson and one named Kipp were two of his best friends that were killed on either side of
Willie that last time and he told me that he held them each for alittle while in his arms and told them they were going to be fine because they were going back to the world. They were getting dug in their foxholes when it happened,I am crying now as I write this because I can only fathom a small idea what he went through, and all the pain of seeing such horible sights with his eyes.Maybe you could help me find a relative of these men and let them know they were not alone when they died.My email address is suzieQue5147@yahoo.com if you want to see my page and click on my friends and click on Willie's Marine Corps picture and look at his myspace page I made for him.I think he would like it. He died before we knew how to do anything with a computer or our kids got one, because he would have been so happy to get to meet and write fellow Marines. My nickname was suzieQue and I found out the Marine joke about that from Will when he came home on leave before shipping out to Vietnam. The difference though is that I was true blue like your sharp uniforms. Please write me back and GOD BLESS the MARINE CORPS,all our BRAVE men and women of all the services, those that are written on stone, or are with us today and the walking wounded everywhere and returning home veterans too, and GOD BLESS AMERICA.0000RAH||||||||||||||||| I also wrote a beautiful poem for Will and spoke it at the wall in D.C. with the Combat Veterans Group from Charleston,W.Va. on Veterans Day 2002 and would like to share it but what do I do first so no one else will say that they wrote it. Thank You, sincerly Karen S. Phillips.Served with Mike Co 3/1 from 02/69 to 10/69, 0311. |
